Cuba faces major electricity cuts

(MENAFN) A significant cut of electricity hit Cuba on Friday, leaving millions without power following a collapse at the Diezmero substation in the capital Havana.

The case happened nearly at 8:15 p.m. (0015GMT) and resulted in the breakdown of the National Electric System (SEN), the Ministry of Energy and Mines reported.

Agencies are making efforts to recover electricity, as microsystems are restored in some districts beforehand, such as Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, along with Holguin, as stated by Cuba’s Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy.

The region’s power supplier said that 110 megawatts are being provided to vital establishments, with partly restoring electricity in 12 districts.

Cuba has been struggling with many electricity cuts because of old understructure as well as the lack of fuel, as power outages frequently impact vast areas of the region.
