UN Syria representative calls for 'bold moves' to establish 'credible, inclusive' interim administration

(MENAFN) On Friday, after the constitutional announcement made by Syria's newly assigned officials, the UN special representative for Syria emphasized that the moment has come for "bold moves" to establish a "credible and inclusive" interim government.

Regarding the announcement, Geir Pedersen expressed his hope that "this will move Syria toward restoring the rule of law and promoting an orderly, inclusive transition."

He further noted that Syrian local communities remain pivotal in fostering local discourse and contributing to essential peace-building initiatives, as reflected in a remark delivered by his representative during a UN news meeting.

Pedersen stressed: "Now is the time for bold moves to create a genuine, credible and inclusive transitional government and legislative body, a constitutional framework and process to draft a new constitution for the long term that is credible and inclusive too, and genuine transitional justice."
