Russian drones go after retreating Ukrainian troops

(MENAFN) The Russian Defense Ministry released new footage on Thursday showing attacks on Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Region. Russian troops have reportedly made significant progress this week, pushing Ukrainian forces out of key areas.

The footage includes strikes by kamikaze drones on military vehicles and other engagements. The ministry confirmed that Ukrainian forces were retreating from Sudzha, a city in Kursk that had been a stronghold for Ukraine’s operations on Russian territory since the incursion began last August. Later on Thursday, Moscow declared Sudzha fully liberated. The Russian military also reported that Ukrainian forces had been expelled from 86% of the Kursk Region that they once controlled, with over 67,000 Ukrainian casualties, many of whom were highly trained soldiers and foreign mercenaries.

Ukrainian General Aleksandr Syrsky acknowledged the heavy pressure on his forces, stating that Ukrainian units were repositioning to gain more advantageous positions. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that the military was working to minimize casualties among its soldiers.

Ukrainian officials stated that their operations in Kursk were designed to strengthen their position in potential peace talks with Russia. This week, Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposal backed by the US, reversing its earlier refusal to accept a truce without Western security guarantees. Moscow has yet to respond to the ceasefire offer.
