Spain Min. Vows To Continue Supporting Ukraine

MADRID, March 14 (KUNA) -- Spain's Minister of Defense Margarita Robles affirmed on Friday that her country would offer backing to Ukraine and train fighters as part of military aid provided by the European Union to Kiev.
While meeting with Ukrainian Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov in Madrid, Robels voiced Spain's commitment to continued support to Ukraine to help it achieve a permanent, fair peace as soon as possible, Spain's Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
Since the start of Russian military operations in Ukraine, Spain has trained over 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers, and it would offer training sessions, the statement added, citing Robels.
Umerov expressed gratitude to Spain, describing Madrid as a "reliable partner" at these times. He said Spain contributes to the security of Ukraine and Europe.
Last February, Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced, during an international summit for Ukraine offering, a package of military aid evaluated at one billion euros this year to help Ukraine continue defending its territory. (end)
