EU Extends Sanctions Imposed On Russia
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BRUSSELS, March 14 (KUNA) -- EU member states agreed on Friday to extend the sanctions imposed on Russia due to the war it was waging against Ukraine for an additional six months.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X that member states agreed to extend sanctions on nearly 2,400 individuals and entities due to Russia's "continued aggression against Ukraine."
The sanctions include travel bans, asset freezes, and restrictions on financial resources that enable Russia to finance the war.
Von der Leyen added that the EU is increasing pressure on Russia, emphasizing that "Our determination to support Ukraine is decisive."
The extension comes after Hungary, which is seen as pro-Russian in Europe, agreed to the decision.
The EU decides every six months on whether to extend the sanctions, and the decision must be made unanimously. (end)
