Trump pressures Congress to prohibit trans surgeries on kids
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has urged Congress to pass legislation prohibiting gender transition procedures for children, condemning what he described as harmful "woke" culture in America.
Speaking before both chambers of Congress on Tuesday night, Trump announced that he had already signed an order cutting off federal funding to any institution that facilitates gender transition treatments for minors.
"I now urge Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes for children, putting an end to the falsehood that any child is trapped in the wrong body," Trump declared, receiving a standing ovation from Republican lawmakers.
"Our message to every child in America is that you are perfect exactly the way God made you," he added.
Trump, who made opposition to "woke policies" a key part of his election platform, has taken several executive actions since taking office. These include banning transgender individuals from serving in the military, prohibiting biological males from competing in women’s sports, and dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the federal government.
