Trump declares delay of car tariffs on Canada, Mexico

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, following the conference held with the chiefs of the three leading American automakers, US President Donald Trump announced a one-month postponement of tariffs on Canada and Mexico’s cars.

Karoline Leavitt, White House representative, informed journalists that Trump considered granting the privilege following requests from the CEOs of Ford, General Motors as well as Stellantis to guarantee they "are not at an economic disadvantage." However, she confirmed that the president’s broader reciprocal tariffs on countries worldwide will move forward as scheduled on April 2."

She also noted: "He told them that they should get on it, start investing, start moving, shift production over here to the United States of America, where they will pay no tariff. That's the ultimate goal."

On Wednesday afternoon, following the affirmation of the White House, the stocks of the three companies experienced an uptick.
