Kremlin says Zelensky appears unwell

(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has suggested that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky appears visibly unwell, remarking that his health “doesn’t look very good” in a recent interview with Rossiya 1 journalist Pavel Zarubin. His comments came just days before a tense confrontation between Zelensky and US leaders, including former President Donald trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

Zelensky’s visit to the White House on Friday, intended to finalize a minerals agreement, quickly escalated into a heated dispute. The discussion became contentious when Zelensky urged Trump to fully support Ukraine instead of positioning himself as a neutral mediator in negotiations with Russia. In response, Trump and Vance accused Zelensky of recklessness, warning that his stance risked escalating the conflict into a global war. They also criticized him for being ungrateful despite the extensive military aid provided by Washington.

The meeting ultimately ended without an agreement, as Zelensky demanded security guarantees and deeper US involvement in the conflict—requests that were not met. His informal attire also drew media attention, with one journalist asking if he owned a formal suit. Zelensky replied that he did and promised to dress more appropriately for future meetings.

Following the visit, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova characterized Zelensky’s trip as a failure for Ukraine, condemning his conduct as reckless and inflammatory. She reiterated Moscow’s position that a lasting resolution to the conflict requires addressing its root causes.

The abrupt cancellation of the minerals deal and Zelensky’s early departure from Washington have fueled speculation about future US support for Ukraine. Reports from The Washington Post suggest that the Trump administration may reconsider its military assistance. While European leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, Russian officials, such as former President Dmitry Medvedev, mocked Zelensky and urged the US to halt military aid.
