Israel makes allegations about downing Houthi ballistic missile

(MENAFN) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that it successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels overnight. According to Israeli media, this marks the first such attack in two months.

“The missile was intercepted before entering Israeli airspace. Sirens were activated as per protocol,” the IDF stated on X.

Houthi military spokesman Ameen Hayyan claimed that the missile was intended to strike Ben Gurion International Airport.

The Houthis, who control significant parts of western Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, have been targeting Israeli interests and international shipping in response to the IDF’s military operations against Hamas in Gaza.

Last weekend, US President Donald Trump ordered a series of airstrikes against Houthi positions, later warning that the group “will be completely annihilated.” In response, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed to continue attacking Israel and opposing US military support for the country.

Meanwhile, tensions in Gaza have escalated after the collapse of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. The IDF resumed airstrikes on Tuesday and has since pushed forward with its ground offensive, seizing control of the Netzarim Corridor south of Gaza City.
