Saudi German Hospital Saves Life Of 54-Year-Old Italian Tourist After Sudden Aortic Rupture Dubai, UAE

(MENAFN- Mid-East Info) A 54-year-old Italian tourist, Mr. Claudio, who was visiting Dubai for a relaxing vacation and to enjoy his passion for golf, found himself facing a life-threatening emergency after suddenly experiencing severe chest pain and losing consciousness during a night match on December 16, 2024.

Patient was accepted immediately to be transferred to Saudi German Hospital Dubai as diagnosed to have Type A Aortic Dissection-a dangerous tear in the heart's main artery, affecting blood flow to organs and limbs, requiring immediate specialized intervention as it's one of the most critical cardiovascular life-threatening surgery. The patient was placed on mechanical ventilation to support respiratory function as he was in an extremely unstable critical condition with low blood pressure.

Recognizing the life-threatening nature of his condition, the hospital's expert cardiac team, led by Dr. Bassil Al Zamkan, Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, immediately shifted the patient from the Emergency to the operating theater and swiftly performed a highly complex 12-hour surgery which involved repairing the aortic valve and replacing the ascending aorta and a portion of the aortic arch to restore proper blood flow and reconstruct major blood vessels.

Dr Bassil Al Zamkan stated“Aortic rupture is a life-threatening condition that can lead to massive internal bleeding, multi-organ failure, or sudden death if not treated immediately. Mr. Claudio was fortunate to have reached SGHD with the necessary expertise and advanced facilities to manage such a complex case. This procedure requires highly skilled and experienced surgeons, specifically trained in unique techniques, along with state-of-the-art medical facilities to ensure the best possible outcomes. Remarkably, these capabilities are available at Saudi German Hospital, which is fully equipped to handle such advanced procedures.”

“Such conditions can occur suddenly and without warning, though they are more likely in patients with a family history of similar issues, as well as those with hypertension or Marfan disease. Early detection through echocardiography for individuals in these high-risk groups can help prevent potentially catastrophic outcomes, safeguarding the health and well-being of our patients.” Dr. Bassil Al Zamkan emphasized.

Dr. Ahmed Eissa, Regional CEO of Saudi German Hospital Group UAE, highlighted the hospital's dedication to providing world-class healthcare:“Saving lives is at the heart of what we do. Saudi German Hospital Dubai has earned a reputation as a center of excellence in critical and emergency care, ensuring patients receive the most advanced treatment during life-threatening situations. Mr. Claudio's successful recovery reflects our commitment to medical excellence, cutting-edge technology, and a dedicated team working tirelessly to achieve the best outcomes.”

The successful procedure was supported by a multidisciplinary team, including anesthesiologists, ICU specialists, physiotherapists, surgical assistants, technicians, and nurses, who ensured seamless post-operative care and recovery. Thanks to their efforts, Mr. Claudio fully recovered within three weeks, safely returned to his home country, Italy, and is now undergoing rehabilitation.

With this remarkable success, Saudi German Hospital Dubai continues to set new standards in life-saving cardiovascular care, solidifying its position as a leader in world-class healthcare in the UAE.
