Nirmata Secures $4 Million To Enhance Kubernetes Policy Management
Nirmata, a San Jose-based IT startup specializing in cloud-native security policy automation and governance solutions, has announced a $4 million pre-Series A funding round led by Z5 Capital. Additional participants include Uncorrelated Ventures, Samsung Next, Benhamou Global Ventures , and angel investors Saqib Syed and BV Jagadeesh. This investment aims to accelerate the development of Kyverno, Nirmata's open-source Kubernetes native policy management tool.
Kyverno, designed to streamline the adoption of Kubernetes policies, has experienced significant growth, surpassing six million downloads. Notable users such as Novartis, The New York Times, Duke Energy, TriNet, and Grofers have integrated Kyverno into their operations. Additionally, open-source projects like Flux and KubeArmor have adopted Kyverno for policy management.
With the new funding, Nirmata plans to scale its product and operations to support the Kyverno community further. The company intends to establish an engineering team in India and expand its sales and marketing efforts to accelerate adoption. CEO Jim Bugwadia emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating,“Establishing operations in India is critical for our business as the country is home to some of the world's best software engineering talent.”
The increasing adoption of cloud technologies has highlighted the need for effective policy management in Kubernetes environments. Misconfigurations in cloud settings have previously led to significant data breaches, underscoring the importance of tools like Kyverno in ensuring security and compliance.
Nirmata's mission is to enable the automated management of cloud-native applications in an infrastructure-agnostic manner. Policy-based management is critical for achieving autonomy across roles while keeping alignment with organizational goals and standards.
