Google Updates Gulf of Mexico Name to Gulf of America on Maps Following Trump’s Order

(MENAFN) Google has officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its Maps app for users in the United States, following a directive issued by US President Donald Trump. The tech company explained that it aligns with the US Geological Survey’s Geographic Names Information System, which officially adopted the name change for the body of water that stretches along Mexico's east coast and the southern United States.

In the United States, users will now see the Gulf of America, while the name remains unchanged in Mexico. International users will see the traditional Gulf of Mexico name with Trump's preferred "Gulf of America" displayed in parentheses.

Meanwhile, Apple Maps continues to use the original name.

Trump’s series of executive orders included one that renames the Gulf of Mexico, which had been known by its original name for centuries. Additionally, the order restored the name Mount McKinley to Alaska's highest peak, which was previously referred to as Mount Denali.
