Thousands march in Tehran celebrating anniversary of Islamic Revolution

(MENAFN) Iran celebrated the 46th anniversary of its Islamic revolution with large rallies across the country, including in Tehran’s Azadi Square. The Iranian Foreign Ministry urged citizens to participate, emphasizing the importance of unity and independence. February 10 commemorates the 1979 revolution, which ended the rule of the US-backed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The revolution marked a shift in Iran’s domestic and foreign policies, severing ties with the US and strengthening relations with regional allies.

On Monday, demonstrators in Tehran marched through the streets waving flags, chanting slogans, and carrying banners featuring Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and General Qassem Soleimani, the late commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The celebrations also took place in over 1,400 cities, towns, and 38,000 villages, with hundreds of foreign guests attending.

The Foreign Ministry called the rally a reflection of the Iranian people's unity and resilience in safeguarding the nation’s independence, freedom, and security. Over the past 46 years, Iran has faced challenges, including an eight-year war with Iraq, terrorism, foreign interventions, and sanctions. Despite these obstacles, Tehran has continued to focus on self-sufficiency and cooperation with other countries.

Iran’s relationship with Russia has grown stronger, with both countries recently signing a 20-year strategic partnership agreement to enhance trade, military cooperation, and cultural exchanges amid increasing Western pressure.
