Erdogan describes Trump`s Gaza strategy as ‘futile’
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump's proposal to take control of Gaza, labeling it a meaningless plan driven by the “Zionist lobby.” trump had suggested that the US should assume ownership of Gaza and proposed relocating Palestinians to neighboring countries, such as Jordan and Egypt, with the aim of developing the area into a resort-like zone. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu supported the idea, calling it the "first good idea" for the region's future.
Erdogan, speaking to the press at Istanbul Airport, rejected the plan, emphasizing Turkey’s opposition to forcibly expelling Palestinians from Gaza, which he called their “eternal homeland.” He argued that no one had the right to remove the Palestinian people from the territories of Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, which he affirmed belong to Palestinians. Erdogan condemned Trump’s plan as “completely futile.”
The proposal has been met with strong opposition from regional and global powers, including Jordan, Egypt, the Arab League, Hamas, and countries like Germany, France, and Russia. Critics argue that it would violate international law and amount to “ethnic cleansing.” Despite this, Trump is reportedly moving forward with diplomatic talks, engaging Arab leaders to refine the plan.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry also rejected the idea, affirming that Palestinians are the rightful owners of their land and should not be displaced by the Israeli occupation.
