School Students Encouraged To Study Negative Impacts Of Myna Bird

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change welcomed a group of female students from Umm Meibed Preparatory School as part of its continuous efforts to support scientific research in the country's schools.
This visit is part of the students' preparation for a scientific research project highlighting the 'Impact of the Invasive Myna Bird on Biodiversity within the Qatari Environment.'
The visit was organised in collaboration with experts from the Wildlife Development Department at the Ministry to support the students in gathering field data and analyse the environmental impacts of this invasive species, which is known to threaten local ecosystems.
During the meeting with the specialists, the students discussed the research methodology and the key environmental challenges posed by the Myna bird, which has notably spread in the recent years at the expense of native species. They also learned about the national efforts to monitor invasive species and maintain an effective ecological balance.
Accordingly, the officials from the Wildlife Development Department stressed the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and government entities to enhance environmental awareness. They stressed that supporting scientific research among youth is a cornerstone for building a generation capable of addressing environmental challenges, especially in the light of climate change to combat such invasive species.
The research aims to monitor the repercussions of the Myna bird's spread on biodiversity and to develop applicable recommendations in partnership with the Ministry. This initiative would serve as a model for integrating school education with applied scientific research in Qatar.
