Background Dancer Detained After Unfurling Palestinian Flag During Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

(MENAFN) A background dancer in the Super Bowl halftime performance featuring rapper Kendrick Lamar was taken into custody after displaying a Palestinian flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” written on it, according to a report by NBC News on Sunday. The dancer, who was part of a 400-member cast, wore black clothing to match the other performers and kept the flag hidden until the final moments of the show.

The NFL quickly responded with a statement, praising the security team for detaining the individual without delay. They also emphasized that none of the people involved in the performance had prior knowledge of the dancer’s intentions or the flag.

The flag was unfurled during Lamar's last song, TV Off, as the rapper stood on the back of a black Grand National car, which had been a prominent feature throughout the set. After revealing the flag, the dancer jumped off the stage and sprinted across the field for approximately 20 seconds before security tackled and escorted him off the field.
