Shell Eco-marathon is a global academic programme that challenges student teams to design and manufacture vehicles that can travel the farthest using the least amount of fuel. The programme aims to push the boundaries of what is technically possible and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to develop future energy solutions.
The opening ceremony set the stage for an exciting week of competition, collaboration, and learning. Student teams will have the opportunity to test their vehicles on the track, engage in technical inspections, and participate in various workshops and networking events.
During the event, visitors had the opportunity to drive a purpose-built Shell Eco-marathon vehicle powered by gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuel produced in Qatar. Qatar hosts the world's largest GTL plant, where Shell's GTL technology converts natural gas-the cleanest-burning fossil fuel-into high-quality liquid products. These products, which would otherwise be made from crude oil, include transport fuels, motor oils, and ingredients for everyday necessities like plastics, detergents, and cosmetics.
The Shell Eco-marathon in Qatar is set to continue throughout the week, culminating in the final race and awards ceremony on February 12.
