Storm Boosts Rainfall By 19% Of Seasonal Average

Amman, February 9 (Petra) – Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department, Raed Khattab, said that the recent storm improved the current rainy season by 19 percent of the general seasonal average.
In a press statement on Sunday, Khattab noted that the highest recorded rainfall was at the Ras Munif monitoring station in Ajloun, which received 86.8 mm, accounting for 15 percent of its general seasonal average. This was followed by the University of Jordan station with 68 mm (13 percent) and the Rabbah station in Karak with 55.1 mm (17 percent).
He explained that the storm, which affected the Kingdom from Wednesday morning until Friday night, was the first significant weather system in the past fifty days.
Accompanied by a very cold air mass of polar origin, the storm caused a sharp and noticeable drop in temperatures. Rain fell across most regions, occasionally accompanied by thunder and hail, while strong winds reached speeds exceeding 100 km/h, particularly in southeastern areas.
Temperatures dropped below freezing in mountainous and desert regions, and higher elevations in the north and south experienced snow showers, with varying accumulations depending on altitude.
