Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) -- Jordan has strengthened its healthcare system with the inauguration of a new strategic medical stockpile warehouse, part of a broader modernization effort that includes upgrading 10 warehouses across the country and planning two model facilities in Amman by 2025, according to the latest progress report on the 2023–2025 Executive Program for the Economic Modernization Vision.
The Ministry of health is leading these initiatives to enhance medical supply chains and Pharmaceutical security, ensuring a more efficient response to national healthcare needs.
The report highlighted the completion of Jordan's updated national health map, which provides comprehensive data on healthcare facilities across the country. Healthcare professionals have been trained on the system to improve resource allocation and patient care. Efforts to expand universal health coverage advanced with the approval of a health financing reform plan for 2024–2030, and the first phase (2024–2026) is now under development.
Implementation has begun on Jordan's virtual hospital project, which will initially provide intensive care, dialysis, and radiology services. Infrastructure upgrades are in progress at the old Salt Hospital building, including digital and electromechanical enhancements and integration with Jordan's electronic health system. The hospital is set to become operational in 2025 and will be linked to hospitals in Ajloun, Ramtha, Mafraq, Tafileh, and Ma'an.
In a push toward e-health services, 58 digital licensing services have been introduced for healthcare professionals, with five additional renewal services under development. A fully integrated licensing and professional development platform is scheduled for launch in 2025.
The updated electronic billing system, implemented by Electronic Health Solutions (Hakeem), is currently in a pilot phase at Princess Basma Comprehensive Health Center and Jubeiha Health Center, with ongoing evaluations to refine the system.
The Ministry of Health has completed a new operations room at Al-Bashir Hospital, along with specialized cardiac surgery clinics and the first phase of the hospital's master plan. Digital transformation efforts have progressed, with six hospitals and 88 health centers now fully digitized. Additionally, 28 hospitals and 221 health centers are offering remote medication delivery services.
The report also noted continued investment in medical training and accreditation, with 544 doctors admitted to residency programs, 10 new subspecialty programs approved, and 24 hospitals and 154 health centers accredited. Seventeen new health centers have been opened, and 55,000 patients covered by second- and third-tier health insurance plans received emergency care at private hospitals under Ministry of Health agreements in 2024.
