Modi's BJP Wins Overwhelming Majority In Delhi Assembly Polls


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- The right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday winning a comfortable 48 seats in Assembly elections in Delhi.
Data from the Election Commission of India showed that the BJP won 48 out of 70 seats in Delhi Assembly Elections while the ruling AAP under the leadership of anti-corruption crusader Arvind Kejriwal got just 22 seats.
The Delhi Assembly polls, considered to be one of the most important elections as its result will decide who controls the capital, was held on February 5 and saw a turnout of 60.42 percent.
The result is a major blow to the AAP which got 62 seats in 2020 and 67 seats in 2015.
Addressing the party workers at the Delhi BJP headquarters, Modi congratulated the Delhi people and pledged to return the love they showed.
"I had written a letter to every Delhi resident, urging them to give the BJP a chance to serve in the 21st century," he told BJP workers.
"Today, I bow my head in gratitude to every family in Delhi for trusting us. You have given us love with an open heart, and I assure you that we will return it manifold through rapid development," Modi added. (pickup previous)
