January 2025 Breaks Temperature Records as the Hottest on Record

(MENAFN) January 2025 became the hottest January ever recorded, with temperatures rising despite the influence of La Nina, as noted by Levent Kurnaz, director of the Climate Change and Policy Application and Research Center at Bogazici University. According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, which is part of the European Union, this new data reveals startling trends in global temperatures.

Globally, the average temperature for January 2025 was 0.79°C higher than the 1991-2020 January average, with a recorded surface air temperature of 13.23°C. This marks the hottest January on record. Moreover, this temperature was 1.75°C above the pre-industrial baseline. Shockingly, 18 out of the last 19 months have experienced temperatures that were 1.5°C higher than pre-industrial levels.

In a broader context, the most recent 12-month period, from February 2024 to January 2025, had an average global temperature 0.73°C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.61°C higher than the pre-industrial levels estimated from 1850-1900.
