Govt Expands E-NAM Platform With 10 New Agricultural Commodities

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 7 (KNN) The Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has announced a significant expansion of India's electronic National Agricultural market (e-NAM) platform, adding 10 new commodities to enhance digital agricultural trading opportunities.

The addition brings the total number of tradable commodities on the platform to 231, marking a substantial increase in the platform's scope and accessibility.

The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) developed the new tradable parameters following extensive consultations with stakeholders, including state agencies, traders, and subject matter specialists.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, approved these additions in response to growing demand from farmers and traders for broader commodity coverage.

The expansion introduces several value-added products, including processed items such as besan (chickpea flour), wheat flour, and chana sattu (roasted chickpea flour).

Notable additions in the spices category include asafoetida and dried fenugreek leaves, while the fruits and vegetables segment now incorporates dragon fruit, water chestnut, and baby corn. The platform also welcomes dried tulsi leaves, demonstrating its commitment to diverse agricultural products.

Particularly significant is the inclusion of secondary trade items, specifically products numbered 4 through 7, which creates new opportunities for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to market value-added products and helps formalise trade in these sectors.

This development aligns with the government's broader initiative to modernise agricultural marketing and ensure better returns for farmers.

The enhanced platform aims to improve market access, pricing transparency, and quality assurance for agricultural products.

These additions represent a strategic step toward the government's vision of creating a more inclusive, efficient, and transparent agricultural marketplace, ultimately supporting the economic welfare of India's farming community.
