US Private Payrolls Jump by 183,000 in January, Exceeding Expectations

(MENAFN) According to a report from the ADP Research Institute released on Wednesday, US private payrolls rose by 183,000 in January, significantly surpassing the market forecast of 148,000. This increase followed a revised gain of 176,000 in December.

The report highlighted that hiring momentum from the final three months of 2024 continued into January, with some predictions, particularly in manufacturing.

While the job market in 2025 began on a strong note, Nela Richardson, the chief economist at ADP, pointed out that the growth revealed a disparity across industries.

There was strong hiring in consumer-driven sectors, but slower job growth in business services and production industries, she noted.

Trade, transportation, and utilities led the way with 56,000 new jobs, followed closely by leisure and hospitality, which added 54,000.

Additionally, education and health services added 20,000 jobs, information increased by 19,000, and professional and business services saw an addition of 14,000 jobs.

However, manufacturing experienced a decline, losing 13,000 jobs.
