Trump’s administration reveals idea of U.S. control over Gaza Strip has only recently emerged

(MENAFN) Officials in U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration revealed that the idea of U.S. control over the Gaza Strip has only recently emerged and remained a closely guarded secret. According to sources, the proposal was kept from officials outside Trump’s inner circle, with many unaware of it when preparing for meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Wall Street Journal reported that during a phone call late last summer, trump mentioned to Netanyahu that Gaza could be a prime spot for real estate investment, suggesting possible hotel developments, though he did not discuss U.S. control of the area at that time.

On Tuesday, Trump stated that Palestinians had no choice but to leave Gaza, claiming that the U.S. would take control of the region and take responsibility for clearing unexploded Israeli bombs and other weaponry. In response, two Arab officials expressed concern to CNN, warning that such statements could jeopardize the already fragile ceasefire in Gaza.
