Erdogan: Al-Sharaa's ‘historic’ visit begins a new era of friendship


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, President of Turkey, Rajab Tayyip Erdogan referred to the visit of Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to Ankara as a “historic” step toward the start of a phase of “lasting friendship and cooperation” between both nations. Erdogan highlighted the commitment of Turkey to the regional integrity and unity of Syria during a collaborative news conference with Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Turkish President Rajab Tayyip Erdogan verified Turkey's steadfast backing for Syria, saying: “We never abandoned our Syrian sisters and brothers in their hardest times, and we will continue to support them in this new period.” He also emphasized the historic significance of his visit, stating: “Being of historic importance, I see this visit today as the start of a new era of eternal friendship and cooperation. All of our institutions have been working tirelessly to rebuild our relationship to a strategic level.”

Erdogan expressed confidence in Syria’s ability to recover, stating: “We have no doubt that our Syrian sisters and brothers, who inspire the region with their resilience, will rebuild their country.” He confirmed Turkey's readiness to help in rebuilding Syria’s destroyed towns and added that he believes speeding economic recovery will encourage the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
