Turkiye, Egypt Reaffirm Support To Syria's Sovereignty
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
ANKARA, Feb 4 (KUNA) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, now on a visit to Turkiye, stated opposition to any attempts to use Syrian territories for threatening other nations, reiterating support to Syria's unity and sovereignty.
They underscored the importance of launching a comprehensive Political process in Syria that could protect the interests of the Syrian people and ensure safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homes, according a joint statement issued by both ministers following their meeting in Ankara on Tuesday.
Both sides stressed the need of combating terrorism and guaranteeing neighborliness among the countries of the region.
On the Palestine question, both sides stated rejection of any plans to evict the Palestinian people from their land where for short-term or long-term purposes, the statement made clear.
Recognizing the indispensable role of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Turkiye and Egypt urged the Israeli occupation authorities to back down on their decision to ban the activities of the Agency in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Renewing support to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, both countries decried the illegitimate Jewish settlement activities, including annexation of Palestinian land or forced eviction of Palestinian residents from their homeland.
The illegitimate Jewish settlement activities destabilize the Middle East, and risk expanding the conflict in the region and undermining the prospects of peace and coexistence, the statement cautioned.
Both sides reiterated the call for a fair, comprehensive and permanent solution to the Middle East conflict based on the principles of international law, the relevant UN resolutions and the two-state vision for peace.
The key to durable peace in the region lies in establishing an independent Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital city, the statement reminded.
On the post-war rehabilitation of Gaza Strip, both ministers invited international donors to a conference in Egypt to help speed up the implementation of recovery projects and address the impacts of one of the most horrible humanitarian disasters in the modern history.
Regarding the bilateral ties, Turkiye and Egypt stated a joint desire to expand their annual trade volume to USD 15 billion through closer economic cooperation and more active joint investment. (end)
