Deputy FM: Kuwait Keen To Promote, Protect Human Rights

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 4 (KUNA) - Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah stressed Kuwait's keenness to promote, protect and advance human rights, believing in the importance of respecting them and their close connection to sustainable development.
This came during his opening speech of the 55th regular session of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights, hosted by Kuwait kicked off Tuesday with the attendance of concerned government agencies in the member states.
Sheikh Jarrah said that Kuwait looks forward to submitting its second national report to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee and reviewing its fourth national report within the Universal Periodic Review mechanism of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, which confirms Kuwait's keenness to develop the national human rights system.
Kuwait's hosting of this meeting comes within the framework of its humanitarian diplomacy, which is a fundamental pillar of Kuwaiti foreign policy and its commitment to supporting human rights issues in conjunction with its membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2024-2026, he added.
Sheikh Jarrah addressed the current challenges facing the region, including the humanitarian crises resulting from armed conflicts, such as the tragic conditions experienced by the brotherly Palestinian people.
He also called on the international community to take immediate action to support the permanent ceasefire and the full implementation of its provisions and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, reiterating Kuwait's historic and principled position in support of the Palestinian people and their right, like other peoples, to live in dignity and freedom and establish their independent state on their land on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In turn, the Chairman of the Committee, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, affirmed Kuwait's commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at the national, regional and international levels by hosting the 55th regular session of the Committee.
He stressed the keenness of the member states on the importance of Arab solidarity to confront the current challenges, especially in light of the developments witnessed by the Arab region, with a focus on the serious violations to which Palestine is exposed, which are inconsistent with all international norms and laws.
