RBI's First MPC Meeting Under Governor Sanjay Malhotra To Convene From February 4 To 7

New Delhi, Feb 3 (KNN) The Reserve bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is set to convene its first meeting under newly appointed Governor Sanjay Malhotra from February 4-7, 2025.
Market analysts are closely monitoring this significant transition in leadership, as it marks the first policy review since Malhotra succeeded Shaktikanta Das, whose tenure concluded on December 10, 2024.
Financial experts anticipate a potential shift in monetary policy, with market consensus suggesting a 25 basis point reduction in the benchmark lending rate.
If implemented, this adjustment would lower the repo rate from the current 6.5 percent to 6.25 percent.
The decision holds particular significance given recent measures by the central bank to enhance market liquidity, including a substantial injection of Rs 1.5 lakh crore announced last month and an earlier infusion of Rs 1.16 lakh crore through a 50 basis point reduction in the Cash Reserve Ratio in December 2024.
The formal announcement of the MPC's decisions is scheduled for February 7 at 10:00 AM, followed by Governor Malhotra's inaugural press conference at noon.
During this media address, the Governor is expected to elaborate on the committee's policy decisions, provide insights into the current state of the Indian economy, and share his perspective on the Union Budget 2025.
For stakeholders interested in following the proceedings, the Reserve Bank will provide comprehensive coverage through multiple digital channels.
The upcoming policy review follows the final MPC meeting under former Governor Das, during which the repo rate was maintained at 6.5 percent.
That meeting was notable for its implementation of a 50 basis point reduction in the Cash Reserve Ratio, a strategic move that introduced approximately Rs 1 trillion of liquidity into the Indian banking system.
