New Delhi, Feb 1 (KNN) In the Union Budget 2025-26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman provided updates on the progress of the Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income housing (SWAMIH).
Under this initiative, 50,000 dwelling units in stressed housing projects have been successfully completed, with keys handed over to homebuyers.
The scheme has significantly alleviated the financial strain on middle-class families who were burdened with paying EMIs on home loans while also renting alternative accommodations.
Looking ahead, an additional 40,000 housing units are expected to be completed in 2025, continuing the support for these families.
To further expand the impact of this initiative, the government will establish the SWAMIH Fund 2.
This new blended finance facility will draw contributions from the government, banks, and private investors.
With a corpus of Rs 15,000 crore, the fund aims to accelerate the completion of another 1 lakh dwelling units, enhancing the availability of affordable housing across the country.
