India, Nepal Discuss Defense Cooperation, Regional Security

NEW DELHI, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- India and Nepal on Wednesday discussed ways to deepen defense cooperation and emerging security situation in the region.
The Indian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Chief of the Army Staff of Nepali Army General Ashok Raj Sigdel who arrived in New Delhi today on a four-day official visit met several high level Indian officials and held detailed discussions on expanding defense cooperation.
After his arrival in New Delhi which underscores the ongoing efforts to further strengthen and deepen the defence cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, General Sigdel met Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army Upendra Dwivedi discussed various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation and regional security concerns.
"General Upendra Dwivedi announced the handing over of a Target Practice Drone and Medical equipment relating to field hospitals," the statement said.
General Sigdel was briefed on Indiaآ's security perspective and on matters of mutual interest by senior Army officials. These sessions provided valuable insights into Indiaآ's current and future security strategies, highlighting areas of potential collaboration between the two nations.
The Nepalese defense official also met several senior Indian defence and foreign officials including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of the Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
These meetings provided an opportunity for the exchange of views on broader defence and security issues, focussing on matters of mutual interests and further strengthening of friendship. (end)
