QatarEnergy selects joint venture to own, operate six QC-Max LNG vessels

(MENAFN) QatarEnergy has chosen the partnership between Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd. (MOL) and China’s COSCO Shipping LNG investment (Shanghai) (CSLNG) to possess and manage six LNG vessels of the QC-Max size.

These six ships will be constructed in China by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, a division of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). They represent the final group of the 128 LNG vessels in QatarEnergy’s groundbreaking shipbuilding initiative, which includes 104 conventional vessels and 24 ultra-modern QC-Max size vessels.

The long-term Time Charter Party (TCP) contracts were granted to the shipowners during a special event at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, overseen by HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy.

The ceremony was attended by Takeshi Hashimoto, the President & CEO of MOL, and Zhang Feng, Vice President of China COSCO Shipping Corporation (CSLNG’s parent company), alongside senior executives from both shipowners and QatarEnergy, as well as QatarEnergy LNG.

During the event, HE Al-Kaabi remarked: “This represents the final batch of long-term shipowner agreements in our 128-vessel historical shipbuilding program, which will support QatarEnergy’s future LNG fleet needs for our expansion projects, as well as the replacement of some vessels in our current fleet.”
