Social Development Minister Meets Arab Counterparts In Oman, Discusses Cooperation

Amman, Dec. 8 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development and Chair of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, met with her Omani counterpart, Laila Al-Najjar, on Sunday, on the sidelines of the 12th session of the ESCWA Committee on Women in Muscat, Oman.
During the meeting, Bani Mustafa discussed a range of social services provided by her Ministry to target groups, along with key achievements in empowering women Politically and economically. She highlighted recent legislative amendments aimed at increasing women's participation. She also praised Oman's social efforts and its hosting of the 12th Committee on Women session.
For her part, Al-Najjar emphasized the importance of continuing efforts in various programs, particularly those related to women's empowerment.
Bani Mustafa also met with Palestinian Minister of Women's Affairs, Mona Al-Khalili. Their discussion covered the outcomes of the recent international conference on promoting and respecting Palestinian children's rights, held in Amman last month. The conference emphasized the need for intensified regional and international efforts to protect Palestinian children from Israeli violations.
She reiterated Jordan's steadfast support for Palestinian brothers and sisters amid the ongoing aggression and suffering in Gaza. Additionally, she outlined Jordan's role in combating violence against women as part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign conducted in collaboration with civil society organizations. She shed light on the plight of Palestinian women facing Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.
Bani Mustafa stated that her ministry aims to complete all cases related to violence against women using a case management methodology by next year through its offices across the kingdom in coordination with the Family Protection Department under the Public Security Directorate.
Al-Khalili commended the level of cooperation and coordination in shared social services and lauded Jordan's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
In a related meeting, Bani Mustafa held talks with Moroccan Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Naima Ben Yahia. She emphasized Jordan's commitment to advancing its modernization project, which focuses on comprehensive social protection, especially for the most vulnerable groups. The project also highlights economic empowerment programs for families benefiting from the National Aid Fund, training programs, and support for productivity enhancement initiatives led by the Ministry of Social Development.
Bani Mustafa also stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and learning from Morocco's experience in professionalizing social work to elevate the quality of social services provided to vulnerable groups based on best practices.
The Jordanian minister showcased her ministry's efforts in supporting persons with disabilities and transitioning from institutional care to inclusive care under the 10-year shelter alternatives plan, implemented in partnership with stakeholders, including the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
For her part, Ben Yahia expressed her desire for joint collaboration in various social fields and praised Jordan's efforts to deliver high-quality services through its diverse social programs.
