Tehran to launch "Agricultural Productive City" pilot project
(MENAFN) Iran’s Minister of Agriculture has introduced a new initiative called the "Agricultural Productive City," which aims to integrate urban living with agricultural productivity. Currently in its pilot phase, the project focuses on combining sustainable agriculture and aquaculture with the advantages of urban life. The goal is to refine the model through this pilot phase and, once successful, expand it across the country.
According to Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, the Minister of Agriculture, the project aims to address potential challenges during the pilot phase, ensuring the model can be smoothly implemented in other regions. The vision is to develop cities that not only provide urban conveniences but also promote sustainable agricultural practices, creating a strong link between urban development and agricultural productivity.
The initiative will focus on robust value chains in agriculture and aquaculture, fostering job creation and boosting economic opportunities in these sectors. By integrating agriculture into urban planning, the project seeks to improve the sustainability of food production while supporting local economies. The model also aims to reduce the gap between urban and rural areas, offering urban residents access to fresh, locally produced goods.
If the pilot phase proves successful, the model will be expanded to other regions, potentially transforming the way cities and agriculture intersect in Iran. The project has the potential to reshape urban development by blending modern living with sustainable agricultural practices, providing a model that could be adopted worldwide.
