Jordan's telecommunications sector to cover half of population with 5G services by mid-2025

(MENAFN) Raslan Diranieh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jordan Telecommunications Company, announced that efforts are underway to cover 50 percent of the country's population with 5G services by mid-2025. Despite challenges such as high investment costs, the price of modern technology devices, and escalating energy costs, which pose obstacles to rapid expansion, the sector is moving forward in collaboration with the government to achieve this ambitious goal.

Speaking at a recent seminar organized by the Jordan Economic Forum, Diranieh highlighted that Jordan has begun making significant strides in the telecommunications field, even though progress has been slower compared to some neighboring countries. This progress is part of a broader effort to modernize the country's telecommunications infrastructure.

Over the past two decades, Jordan’s telecommunications sector has experienced remarkable development, thanks to substantial investments and legislative reforms. Diranieh noted that over 5 billion dinars (approximately USD7 billion) have been invested in infrastructure alone, including mobile network frequencies, positioning Jordan as a global leader in communications networks.

Additionally, Diranieh pointed out that Jordan ranks 30th globally out of 181 countries for fixed internet speeds, surpassing countries such as Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom. This achievement demonstrates the country's significant progress in the telecommunications sector, and the momentum is expected to continue as it moves toward implementing 5G technology.
