AMMAN, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- The 24th edition of the Jordanian National Olive Festival and Rural Products Exhibition, featuring over 900 participants from across the county, stands as a cornerstone of Jordan's economy and a vital marketing platform for rural families.
The olive sector, which spans vast areas of Jordanian farmland, employs thousands of farmers and provides a significant seasonal source of income, and is a highly valued agricultural season for Jordanians, particularly those in rural communities.
The festival showcases the contributions of rural women, small-scale farmers, and producers, presenting products that blend tradition and innovation in traditional foods and handicrafts, and that not only enhance the incomes of rural families but also boost local economies across the Kingdom's governorates.
Jordan's annual production includes approximately 170,000 tons of olives and 26,000 tons of olive oil, processed in 149 mills with a production capacity of about 408 tons.
Renowned for its superior quality, Jordanian olive oil has earned numerous prestigious international awards.
Last year, the festival achieved total sales of around 2.8 million Jordanian dinars (approximately 3.9 million USD), with over 218,000 visitors and the participation of 800 exhibitors. (end)
