Investments in the construction of two floating solar power plants (SES) at the Toktogul reservoir in Kyrgyzstan are estimated at $650 million, Azernews reports.

According to the information, the project is set to be implemented under an agreement signed last week by the Kyrgyz government with a group of European companies: Czech Sonnenenergie a.s., German AB Progressio GmbH, and LTI ReEnergy CleanTech Project Development UG. The recently established companies in Kyrgyzstan, "SES Toktogul" and "SES Toktogul KG," are also parties to the agreement.

"The Toktogul reservoir was chosen for the project because its large area offers significant space for the placement of floating solar power plants. Additionally, using the reservoir helps cool the panels, increasing their efficiency. Furthermore, energy infrastructure is already in place nearby," the Ministry of Energy notes.

The launch period for the first station is set at 36 months from the project start date, while the second station is expected to begin operations 24 months after SES-1 enters commercial operation.

Investors and the National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan (NESC) have also signed an electricity purchase agreement, under which the state commits to buying electricity produced by the SES at a fixed tariff for 25 years.

This major investment not only aims to enhance Kyrgyzstan's renewable energy capacity but also positions the country as a growing player in the global transition to clean energy. The floating solar plants will leverage the vast space of the Toktogul reservoir and the existing infrastructure, making the project both efficient and sustainable.
