Iran’s Anzali port imports, exports over 920,000 tons of goods in H1

(MENAFN) During the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-September 21), Anzali port, located in the north of Iran, handled 924,526 tons of goods, according to a provincial official. Hossein Younesi, head of the Ports and Maritime Department of Gilan province, reported a 47 percent increase in exports from the port compared to the same period last year. In total, 2,398,726 tons of goods were exported through Anzali port in the first six months of this year, while imports amounted to 662,572 tons.

In addition to export and import activities, Younesi stated that 11,390 tons of goods were transited through Anzali port during the same period. Regarding container operations, a total of 2,538 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of goods were loaded and unloaded at the port in the six-month period. The increase in container handling highlights the growing role of Anzali port in regional trade.

According to data released by Iran’s Transport and Urban Development Ministry, the overall loading and unloading activity at Iranian ports increased by 7 percent during the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year. A total of 81 million tons of goods were handled in Iranian ports, up from 76 million tons during the first half of the previous year.

Despite facing challenges due to U.S. unilateral sanctions, Iran’s ports continue to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s economy. As key gateways for exports and imports, the government has prioritized the development of ports and measures to encourage investment in these facilities. The growth in port operations is seen as vital for facilitating the import and export of goods, especially essential commodities.
