Azerbaijan's SOCAR Outlines Timeline For Electrolysis Plant Development In Switzerland

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR plans to deploy 100 high-speed battery charging devices in Switzerland by 2026, the company's 2023 sustainability report noted, Trend reports.

SOCAR currently operates 20 fast charging charging installations, primarily located on highways and in major areas of Switzerland's Zurich.

As part of a project to build a green hydrogen production facility, a consortium including "Alpiq," "EW Hofe," and "SOCAR Energy Switzerland" is set to construct an electrolysis plant in the municipality of Freienbach, with a capacity of up to 10 megawatts.

Upon full expansion by the end of construction, which is scheduled to begin in 2025, the plant is expected to produce up to 1-1,200 tons of green hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will be transported via pipeline to SOCAR refueling stations to be built along the Fuchsberg highway.

SOCAR Energy Switzerland has already launched its first hydrogen refueling station at Grauholz Sud, near Bern, catering to approximately 150 trucks per month. The company is also expanding its electric vehicle charging business.

By the end of 2023, SOCAR aims to increase the number of refueling stations in Switzerland to 206.
