Dubai signs agreement to join Global SDG Cities Initiative
(MENAFN) Dubai has signed a contribution agreement to join the Global Initiative for Sustainable Development Goal Cities, led by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. This move, overseen by Dubai Digital, aims to strengthen the city’s leadership in global sustainability efforts, benefiting communities worldwide. Dubai’s participation is backed by 13 local government entities, committed to adopting best practices and developing policies that align with the UN’s 2030 sustainable development goals, improving residents' quality of life while safeguarding natural resources.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai, emphasized the city's dedication to sustainability across all sectors, highlighting its role in fostering a digital lifestyle. He noted that this commitment reflects the leadership’s vision for a brighter future and lauded Dubai for being one of the first in the region to join the initiative. Dubai's participation reaffirms its drive to achieve a sustainable and prosperous future for its residents.
Al Mansoori further pointed out the crucial role of digitization and modern technology in promoting sustainability. He described the initiative as part of a broader strategy to position Dubai as one of the most sustainable and innovative cities globally. The use of advanced technology not only supports sustainability goals but also sets an example for cities worldwide.
Younus Al Nasser, CEO of the Dubai Data and Statistics Corporation, stressed that sustainability is central to Dubai Digital’s work.
