MOSCOW, Russia, October 7. Azerbaijan is
currently formulating a global agenda, the general director of the
Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia) Igor Korotchenko
told Trend in Moscow.
“Azerbaijan today, under the leadership of President Ilham
Aliyev, is formulating the global international agenda. The
upcoming COP29 conference is also an indicator of Azerbaijan's
authority. What he says, does, and most importantly, realizes,
words do not disagree with deeds. It meets a great response from a
significant part of the modern world,” he said.
Korotchenko noted that although Azerbaijan is a relatively small
country, thanks to the victory in the Second Karabakh War, the
restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity in the course
of anti-terrorist measures in 2023, and the realization of
large-scale global energy projects, Azerbaijan today is among those
states of the modern world that determine global trends and
international agendas.
“We certainly welcome the visit of a great friend of Russia, an
outstanding state and political figure of our time, President Ilham
Aliyev to Russia, and we are absolutely sure that the summit and
negotiations in multilateral and bilateral format will be
successful,” he said.
He noted that Russia and Azerbaijan are the countries that
cannot be pressured and manipulated.
“We are self-sufficient. The presidents of the two countries put
the defense of national interests at the center of their
activities. If we look at the CIS format, we see today that
regional unions are being strengthened all over the world. The
things that bound us in the past and bind us today are human ties,
the economy, and most importantly, understanding how and where we
can help and strengthen each other,” he said.
In this respect, Korotchenko believes that the upcoming CIS
summit will be successful.
“Azerbaijan, as always, will make its contribution not just
positive but one of the decisive contributions,” he said.
