Agriculture Accounts For Considerable Portion Of Azerbaijan's Exports - AZPROMO

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. Agriculture accounts for a considerable portion of Azerbaijan's exports, Deputy Executive Director of Export and investment Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) Tural Hajili said during the panel discussions at the international conference held as part of the Baku Climate Action Week, Trend reports.

"The Azerbaijani government's Harmonia initiative, aimed at enhancing climate resilience, is one of the 14 key programs to be presented at COP29. It is crucial because agriculture holds a prominent position in Azerbaijan's economy and is one of the leading sectors in the non-oil segment. We are actively promoting the development of expertise and attracting foreign direct investment to this sector. The contribution of agriculture to GDP in 2023 was about 5 percent, and its products account for a considerable portion of exports, exceeding $1 billion annually," he said.

Hajili also pointed out that agriculture is a major source of carbon dioxide emissions, and the current levels of funding and investment are insufficient to carry out all necessary transformations.

"Further steps are needed in this regard. The companies invited to today's event have already contributed to reducing carbon emissions through their activities. AZPROMO and the Ministry of Economy are fully committed to supporting these efforts and assisting our companies at all stages of their operations," he added.
