Struggle Against French Colonial Policy Lies At Mayotte Island's Core - Maoré Committee Member
(MENAFN- Trend News Agency)
BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. The island of
Mayotte is trying to fight France's colonial policy, the member of
the Maoré committee, Mahmoud Muidin, told Trend.
After the independence of Comoros, the four islands that
comprise it should also be independent.
“There is a UN decision in this regard. Although this decision
was made, it has not been realized. This too has a reason - the
colonial policy of France.
We have received support from Azerbaijan. I also want to thank
the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, for his
mention of the island of Mayotte. France has built a cultural wall
here. This is because, ethnically and biologically, we, natives of
Mayotte Island, are the same as other islanders. However, France
does not want this to continue. We condemn this policy of France,”
he added.
To note, the Baku Initiative Group is organizing an
international conference in Baku on the French-occupied island of
Mayotte.
The conference entitled“Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte
Island of Comoros Union” is attended by social and political
figures of the island of Mayotte, representatives of scientific
circles, human rights activists, heads of non-governmental
organizations, members of political parties fighting against the
occupation of the island of Mayotte by France and striving for the
return of the island of Mayotte to the Union of the Comoros, as
well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in
Azerbaijan.
