Gas Supplies From Russia To Uzbekistan Reach Technical Limit - Gazprom

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 30. The requests that the gazprom meets for gas supplies to Uzbekistan are going through the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline at the maximum technically possible level, the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller said, Trend reports.

He spoke during a meeting with the heads of subsidiaries and organizations of Gazprom.

Alexey Miller noted that the gas supply to Uzbekistan has reached the winter level. The level at which the Gazprom supplied gas to Uzbekistan last winter, when there were abnormally severe cold weather conditions.

“Gazprom is expanding its cooperation with Central Asian countries, where energy consumption is also on the rise. The Central Asian countries are developing very intensively in economic and social terms. And this opens up new opportunities for us. We doubled gas supplies to this region from January through August 2024,” he said.

Uzbekistan faced an energy crisis in 2022, when the country had to announce fan blackouts due to an abnormally cold winter and high gas consumption for heating and power generation. The country imported more gas than it exported in 2023.

On October 7, 2023, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave a start to the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. Gas transit is carried out through the Central Asia-Center gas trunkline.
