Drone battery explosion triggers fire at office building in Indonesia

(MENAFN) A suspected drone battery explosion triggered a fire at a seven-story office building in Jakarta, Indonesia, killing at least 22 people, including 15 women, local media reported Tuesday.

Central Jakarta police chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro confirmed the fatalities, noting that the victims—seven men and 15 women—were trapped in the building when the fire broke out. Authorities continue to search the site, focusing on the sixth floor, where access remains particularly challenging, and more victims are feared trapped.

According to a news agency, the building likely housed the Indonesian subsidiary of Terra Drone Corp, a Japanese company providing measurement, agricultural, and other services using drones across Southeast Asia.

The fire reportedly erupted after a drone battery exploded, rapidly spreading through much of the building. Emergency responders evacuated survivors to the rooftop.

A full forensic investigation will commence once the fire is under control.
