DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 28. Kazatomprom,
Kazakhstan's uranium producer, and Tajikistan's TajRedMet
state-owned unitary enterprise have signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) aimed at expanding cooperation in the fields of
uranium mining, processing, and the exploration of rare and rare
earth metals, Trend reports.
According to Kazatomprom, the agreement was signed during the
official visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to
Tajikistan. The MOU establishes a strategic partnership that could
significantly impact the mining industries in both countries.
Under the MOU, the companies will collaborate on various
initiatives, including uranium exploration, mining, and processing,
as well as research and development, the introduction of innovative
technologies, and workforce training.
“While it is too early to discuss specific outcomes, we are
focused on promising joint projects in the uranium sector, as well
as in rare and rare earth metals. These projects are expected to
benefit both Kazakhstan and Tajikistan significantly. We hope this
MOU will serve as the foundation for long-term and productive
cooperation, contributing to economic growth and technological
advancement in both nations,” Meirzhan Yusupov, Chairman of
Kazatomprom's Management Board said.
In the near future, TajRedMet representatives are expected to
visit Kazakhstan to tour Kazatomprom's production facilities. This
visit will be a crucial step in advancing joint projects and will
allow both parties to better assess the potential for future
collaboration.
Kazatomprom is the world's largest producer of uranium,
accounting for approximately 20 percent of global primary uranium
production in 2023.
