Azerbaijan Conducts Press-Group Meeting At Central Election Commission (PHOTO)


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. In the lead-up to the extraordinary election to the Azerbaijani Parliament set for September 1, 2024, a powwow of the press group under the Central Election Commission (CEC) took place on August 22, Trend reports.

According to the information, members of the CEC and representatives from media outlets that are part of the press group were present at the meeting, along with officials from the international observation mission.

The meeting first examined the press group's powers, tasks, and monitoring of media campaigning regulations. The activity of the press group, most of whose members are specialists working in the field of journalism, is regulated by the Electoral Code and the relevant regulation adopted by the CEC. Guided in its activity by the norms and requirements established by the legislation, the press group takes measures to comply with the rules and methods of conducting pre-election promotion in mass media, and, if necessary, submits its proposals on these appeals to the CEC for discussion.

Afterward, a discussion was held on the role and responsibilities of the media in election, It was noted that media representatives participate freely in election and play an important role in raising public awareness of the processes. It was emphasized that the legislation stipulates broad rights, duties, and responsibilities of media representatives both in ensuring publicity and transparency during elections, at the stage of pre-election promotion, and in carrying out professional activities on election day. Therefore, in the process of pre-election promotion, it is necessary to strictly and precisely observe the requirements of the Electoral Code and relevant legislation.

Furthermore, the meeting was informed about the preparations for the election to the Azerbaijani Parliament, and it was mentioned that the CEC implements large-scale projects aimed at informing voters and enlightening the participants of the election with different statuses. While informing about the rules of campaigning in the upcoming election, it was noted that for campaigning, which is one of the most important stages of an election, in civilized and modern conditions, all subjects of campaigning are provided with wide opportunities and comprehensive equal conditions. Under the requirements of the Electoral Code, candidates registered for the election to the Azerbaijani Parliament, their authorized representatives, and authorized persons, as well as political parties whose candidate is registered, their authorized representatives, and authorized persons, have the right to campaign.

Once again, the Press Group under the CEC stressed that media campaigning for elections must adhere strictly to the law, warned that violators face legal consequences, and expressed faith that representatives of the media will do their jobs with honor.

Regular meetings of the Press Group were also considered as an option in the event that they become necessary during the election campaign or in response to requests.

The meeting wrapped up its work after a thorough discussion of a myriad of issues pertaining to the election campaign and clearing up any questions from the participants.
