Turkey’s BIST 100 decreases 0.58 percent on Monday


(MENAFN) On Monday, the Turkish benchmark stock index began trading at 10,827.98 points, reflecting a decrease of 0.58 percent, or 63.44 points, from its previous closing level. This decline marks a reversal from the modest gains seen at the end of the previous trading session.

On Friday, the BIST 100 index of Borsa Istanbul experienced a slight increase of 0.18 percent, to end the day at 510,891.42 points. The daily transaction volume for the index reached 84.3 billion Turkish liras, which is equivalent to approximately USD2.56 billion. This uptick, though modest, contributed to a positive close for the index.

In the foreign exchange market, as of 9:54 a.m. local time (06:54 GMT), the exchange rate for the US dollar against the Turkish lira (USD/TRY) was recorded at 32.9475. The euro/Turkish lira (EUR/TRY) rate was 35.8536, while the British pound/Turkish lira (GBP/TRY) rate stood at 42.4515. These rates indicate the current value of the Turkish lira in relation to major global currencies.

In commodities, the price of gold was reported at USD2,437.20 per ounce. Meanwhile, the cost of Brent crude oil was approximately USD80.62 per barrel. These figures provide an overview of the current market conditions for precious metals and energy resources.
