Mauritania Heads African Union Delegation To G20


(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Mauritania is present at G20 minister-level meetings being held this week in Rio after taking over the rotating chair of the African Union, of which the Arab country is a member, state news agency AMI reported. The G20 meetings – focused on economic and social issues – started on Monday (22) and end on Friday (26).

Mauritania's officials represent the African Union at G20 meetings

Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Mohamed Lemine Dhehbi, the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania, participated in the meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20, representing the African Union.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh AI- Ghazouani is the current chair of the African Union. The chairperson of the African Union is the head of the African Union elected by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government for a one-year term. President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros handed over his chairmanship to Ghazouani last February.

Mauritania is participating in the Rio de Janeiro's summit as head of the African Union delegation.

The sessions of the G20 meetings in Brazil discuss several topics, including financial inclusion, the global tax ecosystem, the need for resource mobilization and financing for climate and sustainable development goals, and the reform of multilateral development banks.

Mauritania joins f ight against hunger

Highlights of the G20 meetings included the pre-launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, spearheaded by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which was approved by acclamation in Rio, and the consensus that it's necessary to deepen global discussions on taxing the world's super-rich, another major issued put on the table by Brazil as G20's temporary chair.
