Zelensky declares need to end war ASAP

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his urgent call for an expedited resolution to the ongoing conflict with Russia, emphasizing the need to halt the loss of life caused by the war. Speaking during a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state visiting Kiev, Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Holy See for its steadfast support of Ukraine’s plight.

In a video posted on his Telegram channel, Zelensky underscored the critical imperative of ending the war "as soon as possible" to prevent further casualties. He emphasized the universal understanding among nations that the continuation of hostilities must cease promptly to avoid unnecessary human suffering.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Zelensky articulated his hope to transition from the current "hot stage" of conflict by the year's end, asserting that prolonging the war for another decade was not an acceptable scenario. Central to his strategy is rallying Western allies to endorse and present his proposed "peace formula" to Russia as a unified bloc.

Zelensky’s "peace formula," initially outlined in November 2022, encompasses demands such as Russia's complete withdrawal from territories claimed by Ukraine, including Crimea and Donbass, reparations, trials for war crimes committed by Russian leadership, and Ukraine's accession to NATO. Despite Moscow's dismissal of these terms as unrealistic, Zelensky has remained steadfast in his pursuit of a diplomatic resolution.

The Ukrainian leader's renewed urgency in seeking an end to the conflict marks a significant shift from earlier stances, notably when Pope Francis had urged Kiev to explore negotiation avenues with Moscow. Prior to unveiling the "peace formula," Zelensky had also enacted a decree prohibiting negotiations with Russia as long as President Vladimir Putin remained in power.

Amid these diplomatic maneuvers, Ukraine continues to navigate the complexities of an ongoing war, leveraging international support and strategic alliances to safeguard its territorial integrity and ensure a sustainable peace for its people.
