Israeli military enters Tulkarm in West Bank again

(MENAFN) Late Tuesday, the Israeli army re-entered the city of Tulkarm in the northern occupied West Bank, surrounding a house in the Azbat al-Jarad area. According to state-run Palestine TV, the Israeli forces entered Tulkarm from the southwestern side of the city. The operation involved gunfire around the besieged house and the use of a suicide drone to target the location.

This renewed incursion into Tulkarm followed the army's earlier withdrawal from the city, which had resulted in the deaths of five Palestinians. The incident underscores the escalating tensions in the West Bank, which have been exacerbated by ongoing Israeli military actions. Since October 7 of the previous year, nearly 39,100 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip due to an extensive Israeli offensive. The conflict has also severely impacted the West Bank, with at least 586 Palestinians killed and nearly 5,400 others injured by Israeli army fire, according to the Health Ministry.

The recent violence in Tulkarm is part of a broader pattern of conflict in the region. On July 19, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark opinion declaring Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestinian land as "illegal" and called for the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This ruling has added to the international scrutiny of Israel's actions in the occupied territories and has highlighted the ongoing challenges in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
